West Fraser announces closure of Maxville sawmill and indefinitely curtails Huttig, AR Facility

Posted on January 15, 2024   |

West Fraser announces the closure of the Maxville, Florida sawmill and the indefinite hiatus of the Huttig, Arkansas sawmill by the end of this month.

The decision, influenced by higher fiber costs and market conditions, will affect 80 employees in Maxville and 140 in Huttig.

These closures will cut West Fraser's U.S. lumber capacity by about 270 million board feet.

West Fraser foresees charges of $50 million in Q4 2023 for restructuring and adjustments connected to these operational changes.
