West Fraser declares permanent closure of Fraser Lake B.C. Sawmill

Posted on January 29, 2024   |

West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd. officially announced the permanent closure of its Fraser Lake sawmill facility in British Columbia.

The closure of the sawmill will affect 175 employees and West Fraser is committed to reducing the impact by offering work opportunities at other West Fraser operations.

The shutdown of the mill will result in a reduction of 160 million board feet in West Fraser's Canadian lumber capacity.

In response to these changes, West Fraser expects to record restructuring and impairment charges of around $81 million in the fourth quarter of 2023.
