West Fraser records $153 million loss in Q4 2023 amid soft sales

West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd. reported a fourth-quarter loss of $153 million, a sharper decline compared to $94 million in the previous year.
Quarterly sales for the period ending December 31 decreased to $1.5 billion from $1.6 billion.
Loss per diluted share rises to $1.87 from $1.13 in the previous year.
The company announced the permanent closure of its Fraser Lake, B.C., sawmill in January due to challenges in accessing economically viable fiber.
