West Fraser to curtail production at its British Columbian sawmills

Posted on August 11, 2022   |

  • West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd. decided to permanently reduce integrated production of 170 million board feet at its Fraser Lake and Williams Lake sawmills, as well as 85 million square feet of plywood production at Quesnel Plywood mill.
  • The reduction in capacity will affect 77 positions at Fraser Lake Sawmill, 15 positions at Williams Lake Lumber, and 55 positions at Quesnel Plywood, which will occur in Q4 2022 but the Company will provide opportunities at other West Fraser operations to mitigate the impact.
  • These reductions are required to reasonably align West Fraser’s operating capacity with available timber and transport availability as in British Columbia, the availability of timber is a problem and transportation constraints made it difficult to access markets.
