West Fraser to curtail production at its British Columbia’s sawmills

Posted on August 16, 2022   |

  • West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd. is permanently shutting 170 million board feet of integrated production at its Fraser Lake and Williams Lake sawmills, and 85 million square feet of plywood product
  • The reduction in capacity will affect 77 positions at Fraser Lake Sawmill, 15 positions at Williams Lake Lumber, and 55 positions at Quesnel Plywood, which will occur in Q4 2022 but the Company will provide opportunities at other West Fraser operations to mitigate the impact.
  • These reductions are required to reasonably align West Fraser’s operating capacity with available timber and transport availability as in British Columbia, the availability of timber is an issue and transportation constraints made it difficult to certainly access markets.
