Western Australia to follow Victoria's lead in banning native forest logging
Posted on October 9, 2023 |
The government is allocating $350 million (AUD) to enhance the state's softwood pine plantations, ensuring a sustainable source of building materials, preserving existing jobs, and creating an additional 140 positions.
This investment serves a dual purpose by addressing the state's housing shortage and contributing to climate change mitigation through the expansion of pine forests.
In support of these changes, the government has already committed $80 million to the Native Forest Transition Plan, which includes significant industry restructuring payments.
