Western Australia's Forest Management Plan 2024–33 is set to receive a $67.2 million injection over the next four years.
This funding allocation, part of the state budget, aims to generate 65 new jobs and implement climate-focused initiatives.
Included initiatives encompass the establishment of a forest health monitoring program and the support for emerging technologies such as eco-acoustics and fire research.
The allocated funds will also facilitate collaboration with Traditional Owners, protection of native wildlife, and management of weeds and plant diseases.
Between 2024-27, new job opportunities will be created within the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation, and Attractions (DBCA) and partner agencies.
The Forest Management Plan, which took effect on January 1st, governs the management of over 2.5 million hectares of forests in Western Australia's South West.
Additionally, the plan commits to adding more than 400,000 hectares of forests as nature reserves, national parks, and conservation parks.
