Western Forest Products to cut production at BC sawmills in Q4

Posted on October 9, 2024   |

Western Forest Products plans to reduce lumber production at its British Columbia sawmills by 30 million board feet from October to December 2024.

WFP expects its total lumber production for 2024 to be down by about 90 million board feet, including the 30 million board feet reduction in Q3.

This overall production cut for 2024 amounts to roughly 10% of WFP’s annual lumber output.

WFP is scaling back production due to weaker lumber demand, higher US softwood lumber tariffs, and a limited supply of economically viable logs in some BC sawmills.

The company cites issues in the BC operational landscape as one of the factors affecting log availability for production.
