In 2024, Finland’s forest industries used 63 million m³ of roundwood, up 2% from 2023.

Domestic roundwood (logs + pulpwood) made up 59 million m³, while imports (roundwood, chips, sawdust) increased 15% to 4 million m³ (6% of total).

Log consumption rose 8% to 26 million m³, while pulpwood dropped 2% to 36 million m³.

Wood species share: Pine 46%, Spruce 38%, Hardwood 16%.

The wood products sector used 28 million m³ (up 7%); sawmills alone used 26 million m³.

The pulp industry consumed 35 million m³, down 1%, though the use of domestic wood chips and sawdust increased to 8 million m³.

Most pulpwood was processed by the chemical pulp industry.

Regional leaders in wood use South Karelia-13 million m³, Central Finland-6 million m³, Satakunta-5 million m³

The industry also used 9 million m³ of by-products, showing a 2% rise in secondary material use.
