Amazon river grapples with shipping woes due to low water levels

Posted on October 20, 2023   |

CMA CGM raised concerns about the challenging conditions for ships in the Amazon River.

The river is experiencing difficulties due to significantly lower water levels.

These lower water levels are causing problems for shipping goods, especially at the Port of Manaus.

The situation has become so critical that large ships can't access the port anymore.

As a solution, CMA CGM is redirecting two of its vessels.

The Bomar Praia is expected to arrive at Pecém around October 15, and the Marfret Guyane will reach Fortaleza by October 18.

These changes are a response to the ongoing challenges in navigating the Amazon River, which has made it necessary to send ships to different ports instead.
