Canada Maritime and OOCL to grant new tonnage for North Europe and North America trade

Canada Maritime and Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) agreed to commission new tonnage to be built for deployment in the trade between North Europe and North America via Montreal.
The two shipping lines contracted with Daewoo Shipbuilding and Heavy Machinery of South Korea to construct 3 ice-strengthened and winterized container ships.
The ships are scheduled for delivery in 2023 with a nominal capacity of 4100 TEU, they will be 294 meters long and 32.2 meters wide, with a draught of 10.78 meters with a loading capacity of 3500 TEU.
This will allow the carriers to fulfill expected growth in trade over the next decade while keeping within St. Lawrence’s fluctuating draught limitations.
2 of the vessels will be owned by Canada Maritime while OOCL will own one.
