Canadian port workers issued a 72-hour strike notice on July 1

The International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) Canada served a notice to strike at West Coast ports from July 1st.

ILWU Canada aims to protect jobs and argues that the BC Maritime Employers Association is demanding major benefits.

The walkout will have the biggest effect on the Port of Vancouver as 90% of the cargo that moves via the Port is Canadian trade.

However, US trade is also expected to impact as 15% of container trade going through the Port of Vancouver goes to the U.S. or comes from it.

Moreover, each year, 2% of US global imports reaching West Coast ports pass through the Port of Vancouver.
