China's container throughput grew by 1.3% in 2023 but Shanghai’s TEU volumes fell by 8.6%

In the first 2 months of 2023, container throughput at Chinese ports grew annually by 1.3% to 44.1 million TEU compared to 2022, while Shanghai’s growth rate fell from its previous record levels.
Chinese ports managed a total of 2418.8 million tons of cargo which is a year-on-year increase of 2.6%.
The 12 big Chinese ports saw an overall growth in cargo throughput and container throughput. However, the Port of Shanghai’s TEU volumes fell by 8.6% to 7.46 million.
Beibu Gulf Port saw the highest annual gain, carrying 1.08 million TEU which is an increase of 23.5% compared to last year.
