Chinese ports' throughput expanded due to foreign trade growth

In the first 5 months of 2023, China’s total imports and exports grew annually by 4.7% to 16.77 trillion yuan ($2.36 trillion), showing continued stability amid slow external demand. 

From January-May, the cargo throughput of Beibu Gulf Port grew annually by 6% to 121 million tonnes. 

The container volume handled by the port grew by 13.74% to 2.95 million TEU compared to 2022.

Cargo throughput at China’s ports grew annually by 7.6% to 5.28 billion tonnes.

China’s trade with ASEAN grew by 9.9% to 2.59 trillion yuan in the first 5 months of 2023, with exports growing by 16.4%.
