Cosco launches new direct shipping line connecting Asia to Gothenburg

Posted on October 7, 2024   |

Cosco Shipping Specialized Carriers operate the new Rorofo ship line using LNG vessels designed mainly for vehicles but also suitable for project cargo.

Gothenburg is a significant vehicle hub in Northern Europe, and this is the first direct route to Asia for this type of cargo.

Most shipments consist of Swedish export cars for the Asian market, with increasing imports of Chinese cars and heavier vehicles.

Cosco Shipping aims to transport additional cargo types to better utilize the new vessels.

The LNG vessels, part of a new series launched this year, reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 27% compared to conventional fuels.

Each vessel is 199.9 meters long and 38 meters wide, with a capacity of 7,500 vehicles and 4 height-adjustable tires for larger machinery and project loads.
