Dali operator settles for $102 million in Baltimore recovery payments

The U.S. government has reached a settlement of $101.98 million with Grace Ocean and Synergy Marine over the costs related to the recovery from the Dali incident in Baltimore.

This agreement follows the collision of the Dali with the Francis Scott Key Bridge, which resulted in six deaths and extensive damage.

The companies had previously sought to cap their liability at $43.7 million after the March 2024 incident.

This settlement only addresses federal civil claims; additional lawsuits are pending from the City of Baltimore and the State of Maryland.

Maryland is pursuing up to $2 billion for bridge replacement and damages.

Families of the victims and impacted businesses are also filing claims, and a criminal investigation is examining the ship's maintenance.

The U.S. Justice Department stated that the settlement protects taxpayers from cleanup costs.

Grace Ocean has already paid $97,294 to the Coast Guard for pollution control, with trial dates proposed for January 2027 and December 2025.
