The low box volumes are plunging congestion and altering container flows, mirrored in the Container xChange Container Availability Index.

The index estimates the weekly import-export flow ratio at global ports, which revealed that the share of imports from the total volume handled at Los Angeles and Long Beach ports fell by 10% compared to 2022.

The number of containerships on the US coast was less than half of what it was a year ago as of Sunday.

In Ningbo, the share of imported containers exceeded and remained the majority since the end of last year

In early February, there were over 5m empty containers piled at ports in China.
