Hapag-Lloyd set to implement global rate hike in December

Hapag-Lloyd, a German shipping company, is adjusting shipping costs for routes from different Asian countries to destinations such as Latin America, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central America.

Starting December 1, there will be price increases for transporting goods in standard and refrigerated containers, including the taller ones.

The updated rates for various container sizes are as follows:

20' Standard Container: $500

40' Standard Container: $1,000

40' Taller Container: $1,000

40’ Refrigerated Container: US$1,000

These changes affect shipments from countries like China, South Korea, Vietnam, etc., bound for different locations in Latin America.

Hapag-Lloyd is also raising rates for shipments from East Asia to the United States and Canada, effective December 1.

The new rates translate to an increase of $800 for smaller containers and $1,000 for larger ones.

East Asian ports included are in countries such as Japan, South Korea, China, and Vietnam, among others.
