Hapag-Lloyd plans to end its China-Germany Express (CGX) service in February to address vessel availability for the Gemini Cooperation alliance.

The Gemini alliance, formed by Maersk Line and Hapag-Lloyd, has started taking bookings and offers up to 59 services across seven trade routes, including mainliner and shuttle options.

Linerlytica reported that discontinuing the CGX service will release ten vessels, ranging in size from 3,000 to 9,000 TEU, for other uses.

Hapag-Lloyd extended its charter for the 15,440 TEU Vancouver Express, built in 2014, for five years at $49,250 per day.

The company also chartered the 3,739 TEU LTC John UD Page, built in 2001, from Sealift at $31,000 per day for 30 months.
