Maersk speeds up transhipments as port congestion grows in East Asia and Africa

Maersk plans to use “cut and run” tactics at transshipment ports this week because of congestion in East Asia and Africa.

The company warned customers about delays at Kenya’s Mombasa port due to crowded yards and equipment problems.

Mombasa has 11 vessels docked and seven waiting, while Dar Es Salaam has nine vessels in port and 20 waiting to berth.

Maersk faces delays from Far East Asia as ships wait longer at Shanghai, Ningbo, and Singapore ports.

Shanghai has 59 vessels docked and 19 waiting, while Ningbo and Singapore each have 49 vessels in port, with 29 and 12 waiting, respectively.

Maersk said schedules for its Mashariki and Mawingu services might change this week due to these port delays.

The company will keep customers updated on any further changes.
