This morning, Australia’s largest sail-training ship, the STS Leeuwin II, was badly damaged after being hit by the 8,814 TEU Maersk Shekou.

The Maersk Shekou also struck the Western Australian Maritime Museum while entering Fremantle port.

The 1986-built tall ship lost its masts in the collision, injuring two crew members.

The 55-meter-long STS Leeuwin II’s hull remains intact despite the damage.

An investigation into the incident will begin soon.
