Montreal dockworkers launch 3-day strike, shutting down 2 terminals

Longshore workers at the Port of Montreal started a 3-day strike at the Viau and Maisonneuve Termont terminals, beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday.

About 350 members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees are participating in the strike, which will continue until Thursday morning.

The workers' contract with the Maritime Employers Association ended on December 31, 2023, sparking the strike.

The Maritime Employers Association made multiple efforts to stop the strike, including mediation and an emergency meeting with the Canada Industrial Relations Board.

Despite these efforts, no agreement was reached, and the strike is moving forward.
