Morocco to build 100 ships locally by 2024 as part of maritime growth plan

Morocco aims to strengthen its economy by building 100 commercial ships by the end of the year, as part of a 15-year plan to boost the shipbuilding industry.

The "Atlantic Front" initiative is focused on upgrading port infrastructure and naval facilities to reshape Morocco’s economic landscape.

The Ministry of Transport and Logistics has committed to increasing investment in shipbuilding by 6% annually to reach its ambitious goals.

A national strategy, developed by CESE, outlines both short-term and long-term objectives to support the growth of the shipbuilding sector.

Morocco’s 3,500-kilometer coastline and 43 ports, including 14 commercial ones, provide a solid foundation for local ship production.

The Nador West Med port, currently under construction, is set to drive economic growth at both local and national levels.

Once operational, the Nador West Med port will have a capacity similar to the Tanger Med port when it first opened in 2007.
