Panama Canal Authority (PCA) set lower draft rules on bigger ships voyaging via the trade route
Posted on April 24, 2023 |
On 19 April, PCA introduced lower draft regulations on the big ships which are voyaging across the trade route.
The existing drought circumstances are declining water levels at nearby lakes that form part of the waterway, which has led to this measure.
The rules demand that neo-Panamax containerships have a maximum depth of 47.5 feet to cross the canal; thus, vessels need to weigh less or handle fewer goods onboard.
