Russia and Iran to develop a new transcontinental trade route from Baltic Sea to Indian Ocean

Russia and Iran are creating a new trade route from the Baltic Sea to the Indian Ocean.

The 3,508-mile route aims to protect their trade from Western interference and connect with growing Asian markets.

The route will start in Saint Petersburg, pass through the Caspian Sea, and extend to Tehran and Mumbai, India.

Russia will invest $1 billion to link the Volga River with the Sea of Azov by expanding canals and improving inland waterways.

Iran is extending its train network to Chabahar port to speed up deliveries.

The $25 billion project will shorten travel distances compared to the current 14,000 km (8,700 miles) Mediterranean route.
