Trouble brewing as dockworker pay dispute strains Australian supply chains

Posted on January 22, 2024   |

Australia's supply chains are facing a crisis as there's more and more disruption in work at DP World terminals across the country.

DP World runs terminals in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Fremantle, where local workers are having a long argument with the company about their pay.

The disagreement between the company and the workers has led to problems since September, and it's gotten worse this week.

The Fair Work Commission, which helps with work-related disputes, says DP World employees can stop working at terminals in Sydney, Brisbane, and Fremantle. There's also a partial stoppage allowed in Melbourne.

This ongoing problem is making things even more difficult for Australia's supply chain, causing more delays for important things.

Currently, these delays are already between two and eight weeks, and now they're expected to get even longer.
