Union workers reached a new 6-year deal with US West Coast ports, ending month-long talks

A tentative 6-year deal has been reached between the (PMA) Pacific Maritime Association and the 22,000-member (ILWU) International Longshore and Warehouse Union, after a year of talks and help from the Department of Labor.

The agreement ended months of tension over negotiations at 29 West Coast ports and warehouse facilities.

The 6-year contract specified a 32% pay rise for dockworkers with a one-time “hero bonus” of $70 million in recognition of those who worked in the pandemic.

In the 1st year, the contract would increase wages for dock workers by 10% to $4.62 an hour, with an additional $2 an hour added each year thereafter.
