Unions announce Italy port strike on July 4 and 5

Posted on July 5, 2024   |

Italy’s national port worker strike, organized by Filt Cgil, Fit Cisl, and Uiltrasporti, is set for July 4 and 5, 2024.

The strike is due to unsuccessful negotiations for a new national contract that expired in December 2023.

This is the 2nd industry-wide strike, following a previous one from April 2 to 5.

Filt Cgil of Genoa announced protests will start at 4 a.m. on July 4 at port gates including Psa G.P, Varco di Ponente, Ethiopia Bridge, and Varco San Benigno/Albertazzi/Passo Nuovo.

A general assembly for all workers will be held on July 5 at Ponte Etiopia.

The unions demand wage increases to restore purchasing power lost due to inflation.
