U.S. Department of Transportation allocates $580 million for port enhancements

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD) will allocate nearly $580 million from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to support 31 port improvement projects across 15 states and one U.S. territory.

The funding aims to enhance capacity and efficiency at seaports on the coast, Great Lakes, and inland rivers.

The projects will strengthen supply chain reliability, create job opportunities, and improve freight operations.

The investment will help reduce costs, cut emissions, and make ports safer, more reliable, and resilient.

The $580 million comes from the Port Infrastructure Development Program (PIDP), which received $2.25 billion from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

PIDP will offer planning, funding, and project management to boost port efficiency in both urban and rural areas.

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will fund over 580 projects to improve supply chains, speed up goods movement, and lower costs and emissions.
