US import volumes rebounded with a 5% gain but remain below 2022

In March, US ports handled 1.62 million TEU, an increase of 5% from February but compared to March 2022, throughput fell by 30.6% and the lowest level since May 2020.
In April, US Ports handled 1.73 million TEU, an annual decline of 23.4%, and May's TEU levels are forecasted to reach 1.83 million TEU, down 23.5% from last year’s 2.4 million TEU.
The H1 2023 volumes were forecasted at 10.8 million TEU but are now forecast at 10.4 million TEU, down 22.8% from the H1 2022.
Q3 2023 is expected to total 6 million TEU, a drop of 7.2%, and the first nine months of the year would total 16.5 million TEU.
The overall imports of 2022 fell by 1.2% to 25.5 million TEU compared to 2021
