The World Container Index (WCI) records a 3.5% drop to $1,768.33 per FEU in Week 34, marking the first decrease in four weeks.
Drewry Maritime Research notes a 70.5% decline compared to the same week last year.
The index remains significantly below the peak of $10,377 per FEU in September 2021, while still 24% higher than the pre-pandemic average of $1,420 per FEU in 2019.
Freight rates display varying trends: Shanghai-Rotterdam and Shanghai-Los Angeles rates decline by 5%, Shanghai-New York and New York-Rotterdam rates decrease by 3%.
Rotterdam-Shanghai and Shanghai-Genoa rates see a 1% reduction, with Rotterdam-New York rates increasing by 1%.
Los Angeles-Shanghai rates remain steady compared to the previous week.
